Birkenstock for Proenza Schouler
The savoir faire of Birkenstock meets the New York aesthetic of Proenza Schouler, for a capsule collection inspired by utility clothing. For the occasion, the creatives were involved Juergen Teller and Peter Miles.
“We are happy to collaborate with Birkenstock as we have always been admirers and fans of the brand. We are also excited to be working on this exciting project together with Juergen and Peter“- said Jack McCullough and Lazaro Hernandez, stylists and founders, Proenza Schouler -“Birkenstock and Proenza Schouler share a common respect and admiration for the craftsmanship and precision work behind each of our products and we are happy to celebrate these very important qualities in our collaboration“.
The models present velcro closures that replace traditional metal buckles and are finished with contrasting industrial stitching that make sandals more refined, maintaining their traditional shape and functionality. The color palette includes black, white, ocher and silver, proposed on mirror polished calfskin inspired by the present and past collections of Proenza Schouler.
Proenza Schouler brand codes
Collaboration involves i two models Arizona and Milan, reinterpreted with the Proenza Schouler brand codes. Inspired by utility clothing and athletic footwear, the new models feature tear-off closures instead of buckles, finished with contrasting stitching with an industrial flavor, which complement the classic sandals while maintaining their traditional shape and functionality. The aesthetic is characterized by a color palette timeless, which includes the tones of the black, white, ocher and silver, also available on mirror-painted leather, which evokes the past and current collections of Proenza Schouler.
Oliver Reichert, CEO of Birkenstock, thus commented on the new collaboration “Birkenstock thrives on the innovation and challenges that talents like Proenza Schouler bring to our products. Achieving the balance between respecting our principles and key values and offering new design proposals is the goal of our partnerships“.
The capsule collection was unveiled during the Proenza Schouler Spring Summer 2020 fashion show and will be available exclusively on NET-A-PORTER for two weeks starting March 6, and then on sale worldwide on the 1774.com and proenzaschouler.come websites and in selected retailers starting March 20, 2020.
