Here’s everything you need to know about this year’s Canadian Arts and Fashion Awards gala, including host Amanda Brugel.

After a tumultuous 2020 in which the Canadian Arts & Fashion Awards (CAFA) gala was first postponed and then ultimately canceled due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the annual festivities recognizing the brightest stars of the fashion in Canada have gone virtual this year.

CAFA announced on April 8 that its seventh annual awards gala would take place virtually on May 19, 2021.

The beauty of a virtual event? No limit to the guest list! “Instead of the traditional CAFA gala in person, the 2021 edition can be experienced by practically everyone,” read a press release. “A first for CAFA, the digital format democratizes the Gala while recognizing and honoring the great creatives of Canadian fashion.

The host of the 2021 CAFA Awards virtual gala has also been revealed, along with Canadian actress Amanda Brugel, known for her work on The Handmaid’s Tale, Kim’s convenience, and Working moms, at the bar. In addition, the awards will be “presented by prominent Canadian fashion and pop culture figures,” the statement said.

TV personality and actress Jessi Cruickshank hosted the last gala, in 2019, while Brugel hosted the From Stitch to Screen event in partnership with the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television in 2017.

“I am delighted to participate in CAFA’s very first virtual awards gala,” Brugel said in the press release. “Now more than ever, it is important to nurture and recognize our incredible local talent in the arts and fashion industries. This event will be unlike anything CAFA has organized before. “

The 2021 CAFA Awards Gala will celebrate the nominees and winners previously announced in 2020, including the model (and former FASHION cover star) Maye Musk, womenswear designer Tanya Taylor and lifestyle label Drake OVO.

The winners will be announced on May 19 at 7 p.m. ET during a one-hour show airing live from Toronto, with additional programming, including a virtual red carpet and a pre-show, kicking off just before.
