Canadian Label RVNG Makes Its NYFW Debut This Weekend

“I want to be able to communicate the feelings that these outfits were designed to inspire.” Designer Jordan Stewart, who runs the RVNG brand, talks about producing an online event instead of a runway to launch her next collection. The virtual storefront will air on Sunday, September 13 as part of the upcoming Spring 2021 Fashion Week schedule, and will remain on the New York Fashion Week website for those unable to log in for the 19 am EST.

Stewart’s whimsical work has become a favorite among event-goers and those attending special occasions; and learning a new way to translate the RVNG fantasy – a task that once required the dramatic and transporting nature of a track presentation – is one she meets with enthusiasm. “Evolution is on the agenda,” she says of the fashion industry and why it is well suited to meet the challenges inherent in our new, socially remote world. “We have to adapt, pivot and reinvent what we do.”

Having already shown during Toronto Fashion Week, Stewart finally felt ready to apply to the NYFW calendar and started the process last year; In early 2020, she was expected to bring her collection of ready-to-wear and pre-owned pieces to Manhattan for a live show. Understanding his own role in adding to the beauty of our world – especially on a personal level for each of his clients – Stewart set out to create pieces that spoke at the time. “I chose to live in optimism,” she says of the way she approached the new pieces that we’ll get to preview this weekend. “I call it the Dream collection because of everything we’ve been through; it’s almost surreal.
