Before COVID-19, Maha Gondal of Toronto was like so many twenty years old – obsessed with style and spending most of her time graduating, in her case in fashion communication. But when the pandemic forced everyone to stay at home, Gondal started sharing her daily outfits on TikTok instead of going to class and 109,000 followers (and that counts) later, she’s one of the creators. most popular style of the application, loved for it. stylish videos showcasing her enviable modest style.
Today, she was approached by not one but two American heritage brands, Coach and Champion, to star in a campaign celebrating their new collaboration, which launched today, February 2. Gondal appears alongside model Paloma Elsesser and other TikTok stars Wisdom Kaye and Jeffrey Tung in the campaign, photographed and directed by Alessandro Simonetti, as well as a fun TikTok challenge called ‘How to Train a Champion’ that invites fans to participate to a series of games and tests inspired by the two iconic brands.
We spoke to Gondal about her personal style, the best outfit hacks she’s learned on TikTok, and how she plans to style the uptown athleisure pieces from the Coach x Champion collaboration.
How do you dress every day?
I am quite spontaneous with my everyday looks. It really depends on the mood I’m waking up to. My clothes directly reflect how I feel that day. So if I’m feeling sad I’ll probably go for darker colors.
How did the lockdown affect your outfits of the day?
It made me more creative. Because I am an introvert, I like to be in my own space. I don’t really like going out anyway, so if I can be in a room and just create some content and play with my wardrobe, that’s a dream come true for me. So when the lockdown happened I thought, You know what? I’m stuck in this environment and gotta make the most of it. And that’s literally what I did. I created my TikTok account and started to get creative with all the clothes I had. I noticed that slowly I started to invest in luxury loungewear to be really comfortable and feel candle at home.
Do you have any tips for adopting your personal style while dressing modestly?
I would say layering – you can enhance a look by layering properly. Another trick is to mix patterns and textures. I think they can really complement each other if done. And finally, [wearing] a blazer or a long jacket or a coat. Not only will you feel comfortable, but it automatically makes the outfit modest as the majority of your body is covered.
What was it like shooting the Coach x Champion campaign?
It was my first time shooting with Zoom, so most of the creative team was there virtually while I was on set. The team managed to do this remotely, which was so impressive. I had a lot of fun taking pictures. I have met some great people; everyone was so nice and kind. They weren’t really strict about it and I was free to do whatever I wanted to do.
What are your favorite pieces from the Coach x Champion collection and how do you plan to style them?
My favorite piece is the beige suede jacket lined with fur and bearing the Coach x Champion monogram. It’s so cute. I’d wear that with a black Coach x Champion t-shirt, baggy white jeans paired with white sneakers, and for accessories, gold jewelry and a small purse. A very clean and comfortable look that would suit the aesthetic [of the collection]: comfort and luxury.

Is there a trend within the TikTok style community that you love right now?
My favorite trend is “what I would wear front row” on different designer shows. It gives people a lot of freedom to be creative with their wardrobes. It takes a lot of time [to film one], but it’s so much fun picking out this particular designer and wondering if you have any similar pieces that represent this brand.
What’s the best style hack you’ve learned on TikTok?
There are two things I learned. This one might sound silly, but I learned how to tie a knot. I had never known how to properly tie a knot before – so easy. And I didn’t even know these things existed but collared bibs, which are used for layered collar looks without having to wear all the bulky layers. You can buy them on Amazon for around $ 10.
