Madison Bailey On ‘Outer Banks’ Season 2, Falling In Love, Brow Tips

I didn’t have a single pair of sweatpants before my forties is an objectively wild statement. And yet Madison Bailey casually says it during our 2020 conversation, just as you might discuss the weather. Then again, saying what she thinks has never been an issue for Bailey, who is known for playing free-spirited Kiara on Netflix. Outer Banks. Since her hit show aired, she has become honest about being pansexual, her diagnosis of borderline multiple personality disorder and finding love with UNC-Charlotte basketball player Mariah Linney.

“I have never been accused of shying away from important matters. I talk about things that matter, things that others are not comfortable talking about, ”she tells ELLE.com. “I feel so much about my sanity, and so much of my sexuality plays a huge role in who I am. I want people to have a very clear idea of who I am, and I prefer to share as much as I want about it. of myself than having other people fill in the blanks. “

Bailey brings his ability to express himself Talking about eyebrows, a new tutorial with body language expert Blanca Cobb on how to shape your eyebrows and communicate with a mask. Like wearing a mask, Bailey embraces the rest of 2020’s newcomers in stride. Not only did she find Sweatpants Life ™ and a new relationship, but – despite all the odds – Bailey is back filming the series that made her into a household name among the Gen-Zers.

Coming up, Bailey mentions everything, including her secret to those enviable eyebrows and why she and her four-month-old girlfriend haven’t had a single date yet.

Hydro Silk’s Brow Talk initiative is such a fun concept. What made you want to get involved?

I wanted to get involved because it is essential to learn how to communicate with a mask on the face. The whole video is just about defining your eyebrows and learning how to use them in a new way as we are all learning to communicate non-verbally with masks. Masks are the new normal. Blanca Cobb, a body language expert, teaches me some moves on sharing with your eyebrows. She taught me simple things like flirting. Girl, we all have to learn how to flirt with a mask now.

How has your beauty routine changed during the pandemic?

I wear a lot less makeup, especially face makeup because the highlights and contours, blushes and foundations are all covered up. I don’t need to wear this. It will just rub off on my mask, especially during the summer. You won’t catch me in lipstick or lip gloss. I just take care of my eyes and improve this part of my face compared to anything else.

I’m also used to wearing pretty clothes from my waist down, then pajamas and slippers. I didn’t have a single pair of sweatpants until my forties. And now that’s my whole wardrobe. I was a person who said to me: “Beauty is pain”, and now I am a person of total comfort.

You film Outer Banks season 2 in Charleston. How did it go to resume filming during a pandemic?

I think we were all nervous just because there is a lot of pressure on the cast. If we get sick, everyone is out of work. There is no way to avoid it. If a crew member becomes ill, they are away for two weeks and can potentially be replaced. But with one of us the whole schedule changes or there will be days off. We don’t go anywhere, we don’t do much on weekends, we just rest at home, then we work five days a week. It’s just that everyone is wearing masks and that’s the only difference. The energy is the same and I am very grateful for it.

Has the approach to kissing scenes or group scenes changed?

I am tested three times a week and we wear masks between takes. I know that for the kissing scenes, a mouthwash is provided between each take. So it’s fun. Everything else looks pretty normal, surprisingly. I think it brought us closer together because there is nothing we can do. We go out more often now because it’s not only option.

Is there anything you can tease for the second season?

There are so many new adventures in the new season. But I think the cool dynamic if you stop with the first season, we’re supposed to believe that John B (Chase Stokes) and Sarah (Madelyn Cline) are dead. We start season two with the three Pogues (Bailey, Rudy Pankow, and Jonathan Daviss) in the Outer Banks in mourning and learning about their lives without John B, Sarah and what that means for the mission. How are we going to do it when it’s just us? Then you see John B and Sarah in the Bahamas doing their thing.

How did Season 1 become a hit in midlife?

There were so many pros and cons, but definitely more pros. The fan base, I believe, is bigger because of that. It was a summer show where no one had a summer. I think it made people want summer. Drake is a fan of the show, which was exciting. I think he’s honestly the most surprising fan on the show. Then there was an older woman who stopped me on the street. It must have been like the end of the seventies, the beginning of the eighties. She said, “I love the show. My grandson and I watched it.” I was like, “It’s so cute. You are so precious.”

You also fell in love in 2020 with your girlfriend, Mariah. You share a large part of your relationship on social media. Is this something you talked about very early on?

It is not something that we have already discussed. We just started posting, like anyone else would. We make TikToks together. This is the only time that I have created TikToks with it. She will teach me to do the dances for which I am not fantastic. I love my girlfriend. That’s all. I love to share this with the fans.

I always find myself in long distance relationships, and I think the reason is because I travel with work. Whatever my relationship, it’s going to be a long distance relationship. It sucks that we are far from each other, but it’s not like without the pandemic that we would be together anyway. I would still be filming and she would still be in school. This aspect has not changed too much.

What has been a typical date night for you two?

We’ve been dating for four months now and we haven’t had a date, not like a real release date. We did nothing. We already agree, our first date is going to be an arcade. It’s right in our two alleys. We are both very competitive. But we like Schitt Creek. We sit down and play a lot. We cook, we hang out. It’s mostly like enjoying each other’s company because we don’t do much. You just hang out and talk to each other, play cards and laugh. I feel like any relationship can survive when you do fun things or go on a trip together. It’s easy to stay happy in this. But you’ve got to love the person setting there doing nothing and having the best day of their life.

Many are thrilled that 2020 is ending. But is there something you’ve learned about yourself this year that you’re bringing to 2021?

I think what I want to maintain next year from this year is take time for myself. I have spent so much time alone this year, and I think it has been so beneficial to know myself a little more and have no choice but to prioritize myself, which is not always the easiest. . I’m someone where if I feel like it’s hard to take care of myself, I’ll take care of someone else instead. This year forced me to take care of myself, focus on myself, understand what I needed and give myself the space to do it.
