Prada made the latest industry news last February when it announced that Miuccia Prada would share “her creative input and her decision making” with Raf Simons. We are finally seeing the fruits of their collaborative efforts, a highlight of an otherwise calm season.
The pair debuted in Prada’s Spring / Summer 2021 collection during Milan Fashion Week today, wearing touches from the two designers’ anthologies. From Prada, we saw her penchant for ’70s geometric prints, technical suits and duchess satin, and from Simmons were Swiss cheese cutouts and the same coat we saw on her last Jil Sander show in 2012. But the magic showed itself in the common details of the collection: Both designers are familiar with feminine midi skirts, punchy stilettos, and a shared interest in a comedic touch, as evidenced by the oversized logos of the breast plate. One way or another, their joint production blends perfectly.
Described as a creative conversation in the brand’s press release, the dialogue between Prada and Simmons has only just begun. We can’t wait to hear what they have to say next.
