In other words, it is simply the best.
After their Emmy sweep earlier this month, Schitt Creek shot to the top of the global social media rankings. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Canadian show reached # 1 on its Social Climbers, a weekly list ranking the most popular personalities and TV shows on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube.
The methodology in the chart “combines engagement to entity social media accounts with weekly subscriber / follower additions” and is based on global data provided by social media analytics company MVP. For the very first time, Schitt Creek landed first in THR’s Best Scripts list, registering gains in all social measures last week. It received 3.4 million Instagram favorites, up 3,781%; and 982,000 Twitter likes, an increase of 3,239%.
Additionally, Dan Levy (who won Emmys for writing, directing, and acting that night) made his best actor list for the first time. Its social media stats included 1.8 million Instagram favorites and 1.3 million Twitter likes, as well as 98,000 new Instagram followers and 83,000 new Twitter followers. Other actors on the September 30 roster include Dwayne Johnson, Viola Davis, Jennifer Aniston and Henry Cavill.
Although Schitt Creek had been on the air for six seasons, it wasn’t until his final season that he racked up 15 Emmy nominations (winning four nods but no wins the previous season). Its 9 Emmy wins this year make it the only comedy to have won so many statuettes in a single season. The 2020 awards show also marked the first time in Emmys history that a show has swept through all four categories of actors – Annie Murphy, Catherine O’Hara, Dan Levy, and Eugene Levy have all won awards. for their representation of iconic roses.
The show’s final season aired on CBC from January through April 2020, but it’s only landing on Netflix now. Mark Your Calendars, Season 6 hits the streaming platform on October 7th.
