We caught up with the content creator to find out how his love of skin care led to his newfound interest in hair care.

Are you even sure skincare TikTok if you don’t follow Hyram Yarbro (better known as @skincarebyhyram)? The 24-year-old content creator, who has over 6 million subscribers on TikTok, over one million on Instagram and over 4 million subscribers on YouTube, has become one of the most famous voices (and valued) of Generation Z in skin care.

Now Hyram is dipping a toe into the hair care world with its latest partnership with Dove, for the brand’s just launched hair therapy line. The product line includes shampoos, conditioners and leave-in treatments, all formulated with ingredients borrowed from skin care products (like niacinamide and hyaluronic acid), for an added emphasis on health and fitness. scalp and hair nutrition. Scalp care is a form of skin care, after all.

We caught up with Hyram Yarbro to discuss all things skin care, hair care and his plans to incorporate both categories into his content.

You are renowned for your knowledge and advice in skin care. What attracted you to this hair partnership?

Thank you! I’m always drawn to innovation, and seeing that my subscribers have expressed concerns about hair products affecting their skin health, I thought the Dove Hair Therapy collection was a great option for my audience. I like the ingredient lists; these ingredients can be well tolerated by the skin and will not contribute to increased sensitivity or rashes.

Recently, consumers have started to think that scalp care and skin care are actually quite similar. Is this something that you have always practiced?

Honestly, I haven’t always practiced this. Hair care has always been less of a priority for me than skin care. But it’s a good reminder – especially since I’ve dyed my hair several times over the past year – that it’s important to maintain healthy hair and scalp.

What are some of the benefits of ingredients like hyaluronic acid and niacinamide for scalp and hair?

Hyaluronic acid is beneficial for the scalp for hydration purposes – as it draws moisture from the air and when you shower you are exposed to a lot of water in the air, it is therefore an excellent ingredient to help hydrate the scalp. The Dove Hair Therapy Dry Scalp Care line contains a good concentration of niacinamide, one of my favorite agents for reducing irritation, redness and sensitivity, and controlling sebum production. Niacinamide will help balance the production of sebum on the scalp, making sure it is properly balanced and not overproducing oil.

As someone who is experimenting with coloring their hair, what kinds of ingredients and products do you use to keep your hair healthy?

In general, I look for ingredients that are similar to my skin care – not just [because] I’m more familiar with the overall skin care information, but want to make sure my scalp is as healthy as possible. Emollients, silicones, and niacinamide are my top picks for hair care.

What is your hair care routine and how has it evolved as you have gained skin care knowledge over the years?

I use Dove Hair Therapy Hydration Spa Shampoo and Breakage Therapy Conditioner, as well as the Dry Scalp Care treatment. Then I use a heat protector, blow dry my hair and use styling product before finishing with hairspray. My hair care routine consisted of only 3 in 1 conditioning shampoo and styling products, but over time I learned to prioritize treating and conditioning my hair as much as possible.

Do you think you’ll be incorporating more hair care into your TikTok content?

I foresee! I’ve shared my hair care routine on TikTok and YouTube, and they’ve both been pretty well received. However, I have to push myself to try more hair products before I dive into creating hair content.
