Like much of this year, the 2020 presidential debates were unprecedented, to say the least. The first – and so far, the only – debate between President Donald Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden quickly descended into chaos as Trump repeatedly interrupted Biden and Fox News moderator Chris Wallace , who was unable to take control of the debate to prevent Trump from steaming through the evening.

But during Trump’s town hall on Thursday – which aired concurrently with Biden’s on ABC – the president was faced with a new type of moderator: NBC’s Savannah Guthrie. Guthrie lent in, calling Trump about his inconsistencies and lies, asking pointed questions, and then following up when he tried to deviate. And, of course, Twitter noticed:
