Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello are finally back in the same city after Cabello returned to Los Angeles from London, where she was filming Cinderella. But the couple chose not to date, at least in person, at the Billboard Music Awards in Los Angeles tonight.
Cabello and Mendes are jointly nominated for Top Hot 100 Song (“Señorita”) and Top Collaboration (fan-voted award), but the couple had no compelling reason to be there as they neither present nor perform.
Since the coronavirus pandemic remains very much ongoing, the Billboard Music Awards, like many other award ceremonies currently underway, have had a much smaller audience than in previous years – in this case, no audiences. Only the winners of the categories announced during the broadcast were present to accept their prizes. Cabello and Mendes lost the Top Hot 100 song, and Top Collaboration was not announced during the show.
Cabello also, for what it’s worth, hasn’t returned to the United States for two full weeks yet, which is generally recommended as a quarantine period after any air travel.
Cabello recently shouted at Mendes on his Instagram, simultaneously reassuring fans that yes, they are together despite having not been seen together since the end of May.
She wrote to him: “the world could always use magic, beauty and wonders, but especially now. @shawnmendes what a wonderful gift to the world. He designed this album with every piece of his soul, spirit and essence with the purest intentions. My love, I am so proud of who you are and I am so excited for people to see and hear your heart. ❤️ “
