Why Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin Skipped Billboard Music Awards in 2020

Justin Bieber and his wife Hailey Baldwin Bieber are not set to make their red carpet debut during the coronavirus pandemic. The couple chose not to attend the Billboard Music Awards tonight in person, at least. Justin is in the running for several awards: Top Radio Song (for his collaboration with Ed Sheeran, “I Don’t Care”), Top Collaboration (voted by fans for “I Don’t Care”), Top Country Song (for his collaboration with Dan + Shay, “10,000 Hours”) and Top R&B Album (for Changes).

None of the categories were announced during the broadcast, and only the winners of the categories announced were present to accept their prizes.

Justin will actually be on SNL this weekend, which means the Biebs are probably gearing up to be in New York City, in rehearsal ahead of his performance. But he was last seen in California earlier today. The Billboard Music Awards are held in Los Angeles, but without an audience. COVID is still a thing, after all.

Beyond his appointments, Justin has no pressing obligation to attend in person. He was not advertised as an artist or presenter.

Justin is about to release some new music. His new song “Lonely” with producer Benny Blanco and actor Jacob Tremblay is released on Friday.
