On June 26th Kanye West announced on Twitter the beginning of the collaboration between Yeezy and Gap unveiling the new logo YZY collection, the first image of the line and some details on the new label produced by the American casual wear giant.
The YZY logo is the fusion between the name of the sneakers and apparel brand founded by Kanye West in 2015 Yeezy and the famous Gap logo. The white YZY block lettering is enclosed in a rounded square with irregularly inclined sides, inspired by the classic square of the Gap logo.
The first image of the YZY collection reveals an oversized design characterized by a mix of pop colors, classic for Gap, and natural tones that have always distinguished the Yeezy brand lines. The look is composed of a padded jacket, a hooded sweatshirt, cargo pants, eye-catching rings and a duffle bag with the word YZY GAP DEVELOPED BY YEEZY AND GAP IN CODY WY 062520.
In another tweet Kanye West announced that a design the YZY Gap collectionunder her creative direction, she will be the young Nigerian stylist Mowalola Ogunlesi. Coming from Central Saint Martins in London, Ongulesi has already collaborated with the West family by making garments of his Mowalola brand for the whole Kanye family.
At the same time it was published on the official website of the musician and stylist a handwritten letter from Kanye West signed YZY Yeezy, in which the artist expresses his emotions about collaboration. Subsequently the letter was printed on a huge poster displayed in the Chicago Gap shop frequented by the artist during his adolescence.
According to reports from the New York Times, an official press release from the West brand confirms that a 10-year renewable agreement was signed for the YZY Gap collection. The collection will include clothes and accessories for men, women and children and the first leaders will arrive in stores and online in the first half of 2021.
